Like in any other country, Filipinos subscribe to their own set of superstitions or pamahiin inherited from ancestors. Sure, some of these may have been influenced by other countries and cultures, but Pinoys also bring in their own flavour to the belief, making them more interesting or ridiculous-sounding, depending on how you look at it. Now there are hundreds, probably thousands, of superstitious beliefs out there, and these are only some of the more popular ones Filipinos grew up hearing.

The International Folk Music Council defined folk music as “the product of a musical tradition that has been evolved through the process of oral transmission.” The term is thus applied to the musical repertory of communities as opposed to art music or music composed by trained musicians. It is also applied to music composed by an individual but which has been absorbed into the unwritten living tradition of the community.

The experienced Filipino architect is familiar with the common folk beliefs and usually follows them or applies these age-old guidelines in the planning of one’s dream house. Many of these beliefs are based on sound planning practices that do not have to be overly emphasized. Like, for example, orienting the building to take in the healthful effects of the rays of the morning sun by having wide windows facing the rising sun to take in the cleansing rays of sunlight during daybreak.

An Audio-Visual (AV) archive is a repository of audiovisual materials, i.e., film and video. A fully functional AV archive is engaged in acquiring and retrieving films from various sources to form the collection; preserving, and restoring, if necessary, the AV materials; making an inventory and catalogue of the collection; and providing access to it. The objective of an AV archive is to provide the means to enable a film to survive for the present and future generation.
