This summer season, why not skip the beach and instead head to one or two of these 20 amazing waterfalls in the Philippines.
Although the Philippines is well known throughout the world for its stretches of powdery white-sand beaches and picturesque tropical islands, perhaps this coming summer you can skip these usual getaways and head instead to one of these (or all) amazing and refreshing waterfalls.
1. Tangadan Falls, San Gabriel, La Union
La Union is definitely more than just a surfing spot. In the town of San Gabriel is Tangadan Falls, which can be reached via a 30-minute motorcycle or tricycle ride. Once there, the trip is definitely worth it.

2. Alalum Falls, Sumilao, Bukidnon
Elegant is perhaps the best way to describe Alalum, a 148-foot-tall waterfall situated in Sumilao, Bukidnon, just meters away from the province’s Sayre Highway. In fact, this grand waterfall can be seen by motorists driving on this highway.

3. Tamaraw Falls, Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro
It is hard to miss Tamaraw Falls—this natural wonder is situated close to a provincial road in Barangay Villaflor, Puerto Galera. It consists of a series of smaller waterfalls cascading 423 feet down to a natural pool below. The place can be reached by taking a tricycle then a jeepney ride from Puerto Galera’s White Beach.

4. Kawasan Falls, Badian, Cebu
Kawasan Falls is perhaps one the most popular waterfalls in this list. Situated in the town of Badian, 98 km southwest of Cebu City, this popular tourist spot also offers cottages and rooms for overnight stayers.

5. Tinuy-an Falls, Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
Tinuy-an Falls is the main tourist attraction of the town of Bislig, also known as the “Booming City by the Bay.” The waterfall’s white-water curtain flows down on three levels, and is touted to be the widest in the Philippines.

6. Mag-aso Falls, Kabankalan, Negros Occidental
With a mountain as its backdrop, Mag-Aso Falls in Kabankalan is definitely one of the most picturesque in this list. It is located 96.2 km (about a two- to three-hour drive) from Bacolod City. Small apartments are available in the resort for overnight stayers.

7. Tarangban Falls, Calbayog, Samar
Definitely one of the most majestic waterfalls in the Philippines, Tarangban Falls is situated in the town of Calbayog in Samar, and can be reached through a four-kilometer trek from the town’s national highway.

8. Hagimit Falls, Samal, Davao del Sur
Although less famous than Samal’s Pearl Farm, Hagimit Falls is equally noteworthy. It has a turquoise-colored natural pool that catches the waterfalls’ cool water, giving visitors a delightful dive spot.

12. Kabigan Waterfalls, Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte
Although Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte, is known for its white-sand beaches, the town has other attractions as well, including Kabigan waterfalls situated in Barangay Balaoi, about 1.8 kilometers away from the National Highway. This 87-foot waterfall has a natural pool for visitors to relax and swim in.

This two-tiered, 870-foot waterfall situated in Barangay Rogongon, Iligan City, is believed to be one of the tallest in the Philippines. It is located 55 kilometers away from the city center.

14. Tinago Falls, Iligan City, Lanao Del Norte
Also located in Iligan City, Tinago, which means “hidden,” is situated in a deep ravine. Trekking to the spot requires about 500 descending steps, while the 240-foot fall cascade into a calm, blue-colored lagoon.

Found on the foot of Mount Timpoong, this 76-meter waterfall is a sight to behold. The area is also a favorite jump-off point for trekkers and mountaineers hiking on the slopes of Mount Timpoong.

Although not as tall or powerful as those found in Mindanao, Kaangrian Falls in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, is captivating in its own right. It has a series of cascades that flow delicately over huge, rounded boulders, giving the spot a very serene vibe.
