Davao City's Cool Mountain of Eden: Soothe Yourself with Lemongrass

Eden Nature Park and Resort in Bayabas, Toril, Davao City is located 3,000 above sea level.  The resort grows different herbs such as mints, basil, thyme, coriander, parsley, rosemary, sage, and lemongrass.

Lemongrass or Cymbopogon is said to have beneficial health effects by detoxifying your body.  In the Philippines, lemongrass is commonly called tanglad.

Planting a lemongrass in your backyard helps repel mosquitoes and other insects from entering your house because of its scent. Lemongrass oil is an effective pesticide.

Aside from it being an insect repellent, the herb contains nutrients such as Vitamin A, B1 Thiamine, B2 Roboflavin, Niacin, Vitamin C, and Folate.  It relieves insomnia, stomach and respiratory disorders, infections, and aches.  It is also an antioxidant that helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

The herb, which has a citrusy flavor, is also a popular ingredient added to soup dishes, teas, and curries.
