“The Doors of Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar (or The Doors of the Philippine Houses of the Acuzars)”: Featuring another doorsgraphy series, this time concentrated to a 400-hectare of park in Bataan with a collection of close to 40 heritage buildings and stone houses.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar in Bagac, Bataan in the Philippines is an open air museum showcasing the traditional and ancestral houses from different parts of the Philippines.  Some of the houses are restored structures of the original, while some are replicas.  The collection of heritage houses in Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is owned by Jose Acuzar, hence the name of this heritage town.

Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar offers guided tours, room packages, swimming pools, restaurants and bars, and board games.  A portion of the park is fronting the West Philippine Sea so enjoying the beach is also an activity one can do here.  However, you may find the beach less appealing scenic-wise compared with other beaches in the Philippines.  Just check out their site at http://www.lascasasfilipinas.com/ for the different packages.

The Doors of Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

Cultural value aside, I was drawn to visit Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar because of its doors.  Its name automatically implies that there be also doors.  My facebook friends and maybe those who follow me on Instagram would know that I have a thing for doors.  Naturally, my visit to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar would not be complete without doorsgraphy.  Let me share with you some of my photos.  I hope no one’s going to get “doored out” of this.

For me, a day stay at the Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar is enough to enjoy this heritage town.  Some of the houses are open for visitors but only through the organized heritage day tours they offer.

How to get to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar

By private car

The drive from Manila to the heritage resort takes about three and a half hours.  Take the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and take exit to Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).  Exit at Dinalupihan,then turn right at Roman Highway, which leads to Balanga City.  Turn right at Gov. J.J. Linao National Road.  This road will take you to the foot of Mt. Samat with a cross on top.  Once at the Philippine-Japanese Friendship Tower, turn left and follow the signs to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar.

By public transport

From Pasay Rotonda (MRT Taft or LRT EDSA Station), take Genesis bus to Balanga.  From the Balanga bus station, take a jeepney bound to Bagac or Morong.  Get off at the Filipino-Japanese Friendship Tower in Bagac and ride a tricyle going to Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar.

If coming from Cubao (MRT Araneta Cubao), take the Genesis or Bataan Transit bus going to Balanga bus station.   From Balanga, take the same route described above.
