My hometown in the Philippines is Ballesteros, which was named after a local Roman Catholic priest. It is in the province of Cagayan in the Cagayan Valley. Located on the northernmost tip of the island of Luzon, it is a coastal town along the West Philippine Sea.

Ballesteros on My Mind
In 1957, when I was three years old, my mother, siblings Elmer, Oscar, and Vilma, and I moved to my parents’ hometown in Ballesteros, Cagayan, on the northernmost tip of the island of Luzon. My father, an army officer, stayed in Quezon City, a suburb of Manila. Instead of joining him in his regional assignments, the family stayed put in Ballesteros.
