General Douglas MacArthur’s Personal Airplane Flies Again
When president Harry S. Truman fired General Douglas MacArthur, then commander of the United Nations Command forces fighting during the Korean War, on April 11, 1951, for “failing to respect the authority of the President” the famed Army leader flew home from Japan aboard his personal airplane, a Lockheed Constellation he dubbed “Bataan”.

In March 1942 US General Douglas MacArthur had been changing trains at Terowie, 220km from Adelaide, when he gave his famous impromptu speech about Allied strategy. In it he talked about the relief of the Philippines being a priority, uttering his best known quote: “I shall return”.
