WONDERFUL SURIGAO DEL NORTE
The province of Surigao del Norte is located in the Caraga Region of the Philippines. It is rich with minerals such as gold, copper, bronze and cobalt. This is the reason why several mining operations are happening in the island. The abundance of minerals in Surigao specifically nickel is found in Nonoc Islands. Aside from the economic stability of the province, Surigao is also considered to be a top tourist destination during the summer because of its beautiful beaches and rich marine life.

Tourists from all over the world visit Surigao to experience the fascinating water sports it has to offer. Surigao is known as the surfing capital of the Philippines because of its magnificent waves that surfers are very much interested in. Waves that Surigao have is considered by many as world class. Even foreigners who tried the waves of Surigao were greatly ecstatic with what they have experienced.
Sohoton Cove is another destination tourists are advised to go to because the place has a majestic surrounding that leaves visitors in awe. Entrance to the area is a cave is half-submerged into water and can only be visited during low tides season.

Lumondo Waterfalls and Eco-Park is an enchanting place to go to and it is one of the prides of Surigao. Anyone who visited this falls will be in awe once they see the great volume of water falling down into a 45 meter grandiose rock structure. After an exciting adventure in the caves, beaches and water parks of the province, the best way to relax your body is through the Lake Mainit. This pear-shaped lake is the fourth biggest lake in the country and the fresh water surrounded by a glorious limestone mountain is absolutely breath-taking. The cleanliness of the lake makes it more appealing to tourists.
How to Get to Surigao
There are several ways to go to Surigao and visit the surfing capital of the Philippines. The means of transportation used to travel to Surigao depends on the schedule and budget of the tourist. If you are familiar with the travel time of the province then choosing a mode of transportation wouldn’t be a problem at all. Nowadays, the modernization of technology makes it easier for people to travel wherever they want and explore new things that they have never seen before. Since Surigao is far from Manila, a car ride would be out of the list unless you’ll be coming from the island of Mindanao.
A person can ride a ferry going to Surigao and be dropped off the Senator Verrano Port. This port isn’t only applicable for travelers but it is also a port for international shipping lines used for import and export of products. Another port is the Lipata Port and Ferry Terminal. The port supplies continuous service to the ports of different barangays in the province and all over Mindanao Island.
However, if you are not fond of ships and ferries then an airplane ride would be the best option for you. Since Surigao is an industrialized province it has its own airport known as the Surigao Airport which accepts regular flights from Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines. If you don’t want any time wasted on your vacation then a plane ride would be your best option. It may be a little over the budget but it would take you to your destination not more than two hours of your departure time.
If you will come from Mindanao, going to Surigao will not be a hassle at all because there are taxis, jeepneys and tricycles in the area. Any mode of transportation can take you to which barangay or city you wish to go.
