How could they forget the terrifying moments when the bright, rainy afternoon of June 15, 1991, suddenly turned into a very dark night and mud rained down from the sky? How could they forget how the subsequent lahar flows buried densely populated communities in a blink of an eye? This was the primary reason why the Center for Kapampangan Studies at the Holy Angel University (HAU) in Angeles City decided to establish a Pinatubo Museum in 2016.

Pinatubo's Unrest Stirs Fear in Town Worst-hit by Lahar in 1991 Eruption
According to Phivolcs, at least 1,722 “imperceptible,” or not easily noticed earthquakes, have occurred beneath the Pinatubo edifice since Jan. 20. Some of the earthquakes from Jan. 20 to Jan. 26 ranged between magnitude 1 and 2.5 at depths of 15 to 28 kilometers, it said.

But state volcanologists said these seismic activities were not signs of an imminent eruption.

Volcanic eruptions and human-caused changes to the atmosphere strongly influence the rate at which the ocean absorbs carbon dioxide, says a new study. The ocean is so sensitive to changes such as declining greenhouse gas emissions that it immediately responds by taking up less carbon dioxide.

Lake Pinatubo (Filipino: Lawa ng Pinatubo) is the summit crater lake of Mount Pinatubo formed after its climactic eruption on June 15, 1991. The lake is located in Botolan, Zambales, near the boundaries of Pampanga and Tarlac provinces in the Philippines and is the deepest lake in the country at 600 m (2,000 ft). It is about 90 km (56 mi) northwest of the capital city of Manila.
