Bacolod Part 3

The Panaad Park and Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in the city. It is currently used mostly for football matches. It is the home stadium of Philippines Football League team Ceres–Negros F.C. It was used for the 2005 South East Asian Games and was the venue of the pre-qualifiers of the 2007 ASEAN Football Championship or ASEAN Cup.

One of my favorite hangouts in the Philippines is Antonio’s in Tagaytay. This is Chef Tony Boy Escalante’s fine dining restaurant. Set away from the busy tourist area of Tagaytay, the magnificent Antonio’s is a sight to behold in this rural setting. The last time I was here was ten years ago. I would have come sooner and more frequently, had I not been forewarned about the traffic.

When in Bacolod, Negros Occidental, the sugar capital of the Philippines, you shouldn’t miss Silay, especially if you’re into history and culture. Silay is rich in heritage houses, more than 20 of which are currently listed as national historic sites and structures by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. If you go to Bacolod by air, you will definitely not miss Silay because it’s where the airport is. ? But to see the heritage houses is a different story.

City of smiles, a branding that permanently marked Bacolod City, Negros Occidental on the Philippine tourism map. Colorful masks, known as maskara, is one of the reasons behind that tagline. This also led to the birth of the annual Masskara Festival. Like some of the famous festivals in the country, Bacolod’s annual celebration has also its own history.

Bacolod Part 1

Bacolod is the capital city of the province of Negros Occidental in the Philippines. It is known as the City of Smiles because of its MassKara Festival, a Mardi Gras-like festival and a spectacularly vivid mix of dance, color and music.

Bacolod is also known as the Land of Sweet People, and for its culinary heritage, including its inasal (a kind of roast chicken on skewers) and sweet dessert treats.
