AI Images of Erupting Philippine Volcano Do Not Show Current Activity

Images that appear to show the Philippines' Mount Mayon spraying a tall fountain of lava in the air has been shared tens of thousands of times online as the volatile volcano spewed ash and rocks in June 2023. The images have been generated using an artificial intelligence tool and do not reflect Mayon's activity as of June 22, a researcher for the agency that monitors the archipelago's volcanoes told AFP.
