The alluring beauty of the Far East is seen not only through its contrasts of culture, lifestyle, and climate, but also through the way nature has brought it into being. It is where the sun rises. It is where oriental charm lives where many travelers have found the most interesting journey experience.

The Island Garden City of Samal (IGACOS), Davao del Norte, is home to the Sama. The isle lies in the heart of Davao Gulf in southeastern Mindanao, and can be reached by a ferry boat from Davao City. Oral and written accounts passed on from generation to generation indicate that Samal Island, now IGACOS, used to be called Pu. It has always been inhabited by the Sama.

I’m not a fan of Batman, never tried and no plans in seeing one; so get ready to throw those boos and hisses. But I was forced to get to know his species during my visit to Monfort Bat Cave Sanctuary in Samal Island.
