Boracay in Rehab

My first visit was in the late ‘80s, when this secret paradise was just beginning to enjoy prominence. This beautiful island in the Pacific started to gain worldwide attention when a German named Jens Peter wrote about Boracay as “Paradise on Earth” in the late ‘70s. At the time there were still very few tourists, and electric power was scarce and unreliable.

Malcapuya Island: Paradise in the Summer Heat

Our boat slowly glided into the beige sand beach, past clear waters through which corals of different sizes, shapes and hues could clearly be seen. We were baking in the early afternoon heat as we disembarked and slowly made our way past the beach into a clearing and then over a small hill. Within a few minutes we were soon greeted by a long line of coconut palms just behind a long stretch of powdery white sand beach – the best we have seen so far in the whole of Coron, Palawan.

Exploring Iloilo's Islas De Gigantes

A boat that had gone all too soon, and an on-the-dot appointment that called for Option B. The overnight ride would’ve been a leisurely 12-hour sail from the port of Cebu straight to the arms of sofstpoken Ilonggos. It would’ve allowed this sleep-deprived to find comfort in an air-conditioned cabin. The bags tucked at the feet. Food and water a pick-me-up.
