Lakes Mohikap and Palakpakin

A cluster of seven freshwater lakes located to the east-northeast of the city of San Pablo, Laguna has given this municipality the moniker “City of Seven Lakes.” On the surface, Lakes Sampaloc, Bunot, Pandin, Yambo, Palakpakin, Mohikap and Calibato look just like any ordinary lake. But as a geologist friend told us, these lakes are maars or volcanic craters formed when hot magma from underneath the earth’s surface pushes up and comes into contact with water causing eruptions on the surface.

Lake Caliraya

Lake Caliraya is a man-made lake situated in the municipalities of Lumban, Cavinti, and Kalayaan in Laguna province, Philippines. Created in 1939, the lake has developed as a popular spot for water sports and outdoor recreation including fishing. Surrounding the lake are a number of resorts catering to tourists and vacation homes abound because of the beautiful scenery and favorable climate.

Lake Bulusan

Lake Bulusan is a lake on Luzon Island in the Philippines. It lies at the heart of Bulusan Volcano National Park which covers a land area of 3,672 hectares (9,070 acres). It has an elevation of 360 metres (1,180 ft) and is located on the southeast flank of Mount Bulusan, an active volcano.

Lakes Pandin and Yambo

Our tour of San Pablo’s Seven Lakes continues! On a visit to Nina’s aunt and uncle who have retired to a quiet home at Hacienda Escudero in Tiaong, Quezon, we took off for Lakes Palakpakin and Mohicap. Our third and last day was reserved for the Twin Lakes of Pandin and Yambo. We’ve been to Lake Pandin before but since we enjoyed our first trip here last year we did not mind going back. Besides we haven’t yet been to Lake Pandin’s twin, Lake Yambo.

Lakes Pandin and Yambo

Pandin and Yambo are twin crater lakes separated by a narrow strip of land. They are part of the Seven Lakes system in San Pablo, and are situated at Brgy. San Lorenzo in San Pablo City of Laguna province in the Philippines. Lake Pandin is said to be "the most pristine" of the seven lakes of San Pablo.

Lake Balinsasayao, Lake Danao, and Lake Kabalin-an are part of Balinsasayao Twin Lakes Natural Park, a protected area totaling 8,016 hectares (19,810 acres) created on 21 November 2000 by virtue of Proclamation No. 414 signed by former President Joseph Estrada.
