Tausug
The dominant ethnic group in the Sulu archipelago because of their political and religious institutions, the Tausug occupy Jolo, Indanan, Siasi, and Patikul in Sulu (ARMM). There are also scattered settlements in Zamboanga del Sur and Cotabato, and all the way to Malaysia, which has an estimated Tausug population of more than 110,000.

Sama, Pangutaran
Also called Siyama, the Sama Pangutaran reside in Pangutaran Island of the west-central part of the Sulu archipelago near Mindanao. There are also some populations of Sama Pangutaran in Tawi-Tawi and southern Palawan. Since their isle is closer to Malaysia, some Sama Pangutaran are able to speak Malay.

Badjao
Widely known as the “Sea Gypsies” of the Sulu and Celebes Seas, the Badjao are scattered along the coastal areas of Tawi Tawi, Sulu, Basilan, and some coastal municipalities of Zamboanga del Sur in the ARMM. Amongst themselves, they're known as Sama Laus (Sea Sama) and are found living on houseboats where they make their livelihood solely on the sea as expert fishermen, deep sea divers, and navigators

There’s a reason that few people have heard of Tubbataha, one of the best dive destinations in the world. In my humble opininon of course. Besides its relative remoteness - out in the middle of the Sulu Sea off the coast of Palawan, the Philippines most westerly island - the dive season here lasts just three months, between April and June, when the currents and weather are at their tamest. Even then it can be pretty hairy at some sites. But if you can fit it in, you won’t be disappointed. Tubbat
